Welcome

On March 31st, 2009, the City of Port Colborne, Ontario, became Canada’s 56th designated “Safe Community” under the umbrella of Safe Communities Canada. This designation came after a year-long candidacy period during which time we established a Leadership Table, held a Priority Setting Exercise, and formed committees to address our top three injury priorities – Vehicle, Intentional Harm, and Falls.

Safe Communities Port Colborne’s mandate is to work collectively across all sectors to make Port Colborne a safe place in which to live, learn, work, and play. We are striving to create a culture of health and safety for our community through engagement, partnerships, and collaboration. Rather than duplicate already existing injury prevention programs and resources, we are seeking to complement and champion current initiatives and fill gaps as required.

Safe Communities Port Colborne is a non-profit, incorporated organization with a recently established Board of Directors, a Leadership Table with 30+ members, and three active priority committees. We are considering creating a workplace health and safety committee, as well. If you have an interest in guiding the direction of health, safety, and injury prevention for the City of Port Colborne, please consider joining our Board, Leadership Table or committees.
